FAQ
You don't need to buy plants or containers if you join Live Décor's Plant Hire & Care service. We supply and maintain a range of plants to suit your environment, even replacing any that are looking past their best or get pests - subject to our terms of trade. Most pots are included as part of Plant Care.
Anything too large to move or fixed permanently such as green walls, concrete planters or courtyards need to be paid for in full. We're flexible and we'll discuss everything during your consultation and quotation so there are no surprises.
We have over 40,000 plants in our nursery so it's unlikely we'll run out entirely. That said, bigger is better and our largest palm specimens are the most popular plants hired for events so if you want to ensure someone else doesn't snap them up, secure yours early. The earlier the better.
There is such a thing as too much love. Our plants are chosen to be hassle-free and they can usually handle a short dry spell so you an your team can sit back and enjoy the view.
As part of Live Décor Plant Hire & Care, we'll do everything from supplying the plants to watering, fertilising, dusting/polishing, pest control and finally replacement when the plant outgrows its container or goes into decline. Live Décor's Plant Carers know the care requirements of each plant species and get to know each plant as individuals with their own nuanced requirements, adjusting their handling accordingly.
There are plenty of plants that retain moisture in their stems, leaves, tubors etc for later use. We have also developed a custom potting mix to suit each of our plant species in an indoor environment. It's not uncommon for us to measure a container with a soil moisture metre and not need to water a plant for a number of weeks. If you want to test how much moisture is in the soil, often the top few centimetres will appear dry but moisture is retained in the depths. A dry plant and pot feels very light weight and we'll service your installation frequently enough to avoid this scenario.
For office plants, the most common cause of plant decline is caused by well-intentioned overwatering. Plants usually only handle small amounts of water at a time, too much for too long can rot their roots and cause a decline in condition.
Typically the plants near the water cooler or lunch room in a business get over watered with the last of everyone's water - but we know this so try to select only species that handle having 'wet feet'.
It depends. We'll discuss a few do's and don'ts with you when we confirm your booking and again when we install the plants and containers at your venue. Summer sun in NZ is harsh, the other seasons are much more forgiving. Usually short periods of a day outside will be fine for most plants occasionally.
Because our plants are mostly tropical understory plants, they have evolved to thrive in sheltered conditions with indirect light. However, our plants are grown tough, they aren't mollycoddled in perfect environments, our greenhouse partly exposes the plants to the elements so that means they can respond well to a range of less-than-perfect conditions.
Ideally our plants need to avoid extended periods of harsh direct sunlight to avoid permanently burning the leaves and they shouldn't get placed anywhere that will chill them such as in the path of air conditioning vents or open windows and doors in cold weather. Strong winds may also topple the plants or tear their leaves. They cannot be outdoors overnight but an enclosed marquee, tent or shed will protect them.
Some of our plants (such as our 10+ year old palm trees) will be fine for a day in sunlight, but we ask that anyone hiring plants for outdoor events to protect the plants by minimising their exposure to the elements.
